I normally use this via the SSH extension via VSCode on my Mac, but I have been able to reproduce it running the native VSCode GUI on the machine itself. Worse, if you try to save the open file (which again doesn't show the changes), VSCode can't save the file because it conflicts with what is on disk. echo hello from outside > ~/test/1/2/3/4/5/6/somefile), the change doesn't appear. If you attempt the same with a deeply-nested file (e.g. echo "hello from outside > ~/test/rootfile, the open editor is immediately updated. ~/test/rootfile open in an editor pane, and affect the file from outside the editor (e.g. Changes to files in directories don't show up unless manually refreshed.Ī similar behaviour applies to open file editors. For example, if within a git repo, a change to a file (made in VSCode itself, or externally) in the root will show up as a modification in the SCM pane (and decorated as such in the explorer) immediately. The same applies to the source control change pane. In my testing, I've only had changes in the root, or the first level, show up automatically anything deeper doesn't show up until the explorer is refreshed manually. the file should show up in the explorer without user interventionĪctual results: the file does not show up until you manually refresh the file explorer.Create a file deep in the hierarchy (e.g.Expand the folders in the explorer (it can be helpful to set "pactFolders": false for the purposes of this demo) Create a deeply-nested folder structure (e.g.The file should show up in the file explorer. Create a file at the root of the project (e.g.Open the new folder in VSCode ( code ~/test).The attached video demonstrates the issue as it applies to the file explorer. This applies to the following areas of VSCode: VSCode on various versions of Linux does not pick up changes made to files and folders more than one level below the root of the project. Tested and reproduced on RHEL7, Ubuntu 20.04 OS Version: Various Linux distributions. VS Code Version: 1.64.1 (reproduced on latest code-insiders as well).Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes
